2020 Scholarship Program Step 1 of 5 20% Application deadline is Friday, May 22, 2020 by 11 p.m. PST HPRA-LA created the Scholarship Program to assist students of Hispanic descent in Southern California achieve their education goals. The HPRA-LA Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding academic achievement and community service among undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a career in public relations and related communications fields. Priority will be given to those who are pursuing a degree in public relations. This year, the HPRA-LA Scholarship Program will award five (5) student scholarships each in the amount of $2,000. Scholarship recipients will be introduced to executives at leading agencies and corporate organizations who are a part of the HPRA network, as well as receive a free (1) year student membership to HPRA-LA. Applicant must: Attend or be accepted to attend a four-year accredited college or university in Southern California by Fall 2020 semester or be enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year. Schools in Southern California include those in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. Be an incoming college sophomore, junior, senior undergraduate or graduate student of at least 25 percent Hispanic descent.. Have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA and 3.0 GPA in their major subject. A desire to work in public relations/communications industries. Major in public relations, communications, advertising, and/or marketing. Have a desire to work in public relations/communications industries. Be a student member of HPRA-LA (not required, but preferred). Be available to attend the HPRA PRemio Awards dinner in September in Los Angeles. Volunteer for at least (2) HPRA-LA events in 2020 which can include Scholarship program outreach. Note: Students who have previously been awarded two scholarships from HPRA do not qualify for a third award. Requirements: Complete an application form (applicants are strongly urged to submit typed applications); Provide a current letter of recommendation from an academic professor on official letterhead. (An additional letter of recommendation from an employer or internship supervisor is optional.) Submit official college or university transcripts (Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.); Submit a personal statement (not to exceed two (2) pages) explaining your career and educational aspirations. Please include involvement in the Hispanic community and any challenges/obstacles you have overcome to pursue your education. Please note that these statements may be used for HPRA publicity efforts; Provide a one (1) page résumé; Provide writing samples with your application, options may include: press kits, news releases, school newspaper clips, marketing plans. You may submit up to three (3) samples no longer than two pages each. Any materials submitted in Spanish must include an English translated version; You may also include a letter of recommendation from a community organization or similar entity in addition to the academic recommendation. Note: Recipients may be contacted to provide a testimonial for marketing and promotional efforts of the HPRA-LA Scholarship Program in 2020 and their information will appear on the HPRA-LA website.
